With a strong push from the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), and under the broader umbrella of the Bike Abu Dhabi program, the city is investing heavily in expanding and upgrading its cycling infrastructure. From scenic coastal loops and desert tracks to inner-city lanes and even a world-class velodrome, the capital’s transformation into a cycle-friendly city is in full gear. Abu Dhabi’s cycling network is receiving major investments. Let’s explore the five biggest developments that are redefining how we ride in Abu Dhabi today, and in the years to come.
Features & Specs: 17 km Paved Track + 3 km MTB Trail
Opened in October 2023 by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, this facility brought serious momentum to Abu Dhabi’s cycling vision. Located in the Al Dhafra region, the Madinat Zayed Cycling Track includes:
Eco-Friendly Design: Solar Lights and Ample Parking
Cycling doesn’t stop when the sun sets. This track is equipped with 550 solar-powered lights, making night rides safer and more accessible. With 100+ parking spots, it encourages families and groups to visit without traffic headaches.
The Madinat Zayed Track serves as a template for upcoming developments—blending sustainability, accessibility, and recreation.
The Goal: Completion by 2028
As part of its urban mobility vision, the DMT is expanding the cycling network on Abu Dhabi Island to an impressive 1,266–1,270 km by 2028. The upgrade aims to connect every corner of the island with safe, modern bike infrastructure.

Perhaps one of the most ambitious cycling projects in the Middle East, the Abu Dhabi Loop is a 109 km fully segregated, grade-separated cycling route that connects urban hubs across the capital.
